Kim

Kimberly Michelle is a 30-something mother/wife/girl that yearns for making everything extraordinary. If she were a super-person, she'd want to be a combination of Kate Spade, John Wooden, Martha Stewart, Walt Disney and Wolfgang Puck. She'd have her own theme park with a wood-burning oven where everyone played basketball AND enjoyed craft time and would look like a modern day Jackie O every day of the week. On this blog, she shares the exploits of her immediate family: Mr. M (my amazing husband), Miss L (also known as Baby M through year 1), and Memphis (our boston terrier) and Lincoln (the Bernese Mountain Dog). She bleeds blue and gold for her UCLA Bruins, and really only celebrate 3 seasons: football, basketball and “no football/basketball.

the “I’m so worn out, but if I’m going to cook it is going to be worth it” meal

Life in the M household has been a bit stressful and crazy lately. Luckily, I can report that all of it is of the “first world problems” variety, but it also has all happened to pile on momentously as the days go on. In other words, things like sleep and laundry and memory are...

dots, stripes, wave and duck footprints

A few days after I ordered my new iPhone 6 for delivery, I commissioned Miss L to create a case for my new phone. She had done such a great job with the last case (and got so much pride from it as well) that I knew she’d love to contribute to a new one....

going solar at home?

We’ve been in our house since 2008, and it seems like we ask ourselves the same question every year: what do you think about getting solar? In the beginning, we thought it would only be a couple of years before we added it to our house. Then, that whole housing bubble burst and we saw...

left knee surgery runs in the family

Did you know that Mr. M and I have both had our left knees reconstructed? Miss L doesn’t think our scars are strange, since we both share them in the same place, and instead considers poking them a silly game. But this morning, another member of our family is going to have their left...

frothy coffee made in the comfort of my office

Oct 15, 2014

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central for NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, and received a promotional item to thank me for my participation. When I went back to work after Miss L was born, I quickly realized that I was going to need an extra “pick-me-up” to make it through each...

yee-haw: a football trip to Dallas

The day the 2014 UCLA football schedule was set in stone, my mom called me with a little bit of excitement. “Did you see which game is on my birthday weekend? Let’s go!” Our previous mother-daughter UCLA football trip had been to Notre Dame, so it just seemed fitting that our next trip would...

say goodbye to plastic bags California!

California did something pretty big today. The state banned single-use plastic bags. This might not be news to residents in cities that had already banned the bags (i.e. San Francisco, Santa Monica, Davis, etc.), but it’s definitely going to take some getting used to for the majority of residents. In the past few years...

minute clinic to the rescue

School is back in session for the fall and I think I have the sniffles just thinking about it. I’m not sure if it’s the change to cooler weather that’s the cause of our drippy noses this week or if we have the luxury of just blaming allergies, but something is definitely up! I’m...

learning to draw Disney characters

Have you ever stopped in at the Animation Academy at a Disney Park to learn how to draw Disney characters? Mr. M and I used to do it quite often (in fact, this is his Minnie Mouse from Disney Hollywood Studios) before Miss L accompanied us on trips as a little break from the...

the science behind happy

If you’ve ever been in interested in taking a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), but have been turned away by the intensity of some of the subjects and coursework, I may have found one you might be interested. EdX is offering a course this fall semester on “The Science of Happiness” from professors at...
