Kim

Kimberly Michelle is a 30-something mother/wife/girl that yearns for making everything extraordinary. If she were a super-person, she'd want to be a combination of Kate Spade, John Wooden, Martha Stewart, Walt Disney and Wolfgang Puck. She'd have her own theme park with a wood-burning oven where everyone played basketball AND enjoyed craft time and would look like a modern day Jackie O every day of the week. On this blog, she shares the exploits of her immediate family: Mr. M (my amazing husband), Miss L (also known as Baby M through year 1), and Memphis (our boston terrier) and Lincoln (the Bernese Mountain Dog). She bleeds blue and gold for her UCLA Bruins, and really only celebrate 3 seasons: football, basketball and “no football/basketball.

say goodbye to plastic bags California!

California did something pretty big today. The state banned single-use plastic bags. This might not be news to residents in cities that had already banned the bags (i.e. San Francisco, Santa Monica, Davis, etc.), but it’s definitely going to take some getting used to for the majority of residents. In the past few years...

minute clinic to the rescue

School is back in session for the fall and I think I have the sniffles just thinking about it. I’m not sure if it’s the change to cooler weather that’s the cause of our drippy noses this week or if we have the luxury of just blaming allergies, but something is definitely up! I’m...

learning to draw Disney characters

Have you ever stopped in at the Animation Academy at a Disney Park to learn how to draw Disney characters? Mr. M and I used to do it quite often (in fact, this is his Minnie Mouse from Disney Hollywood Studios) before Miss L accompanied us on trips as a little break from the...

serious geeky loot

Have you heard of #Lootcrate? It’s advertised as a monthly subscription box of geek and gamer gear… and judging from their hashtag popularity, they deliver month after month on that promise. So, being a family of “gamers & geeks,” I gifted Mr. M a 3-month subscription to LootCrate for his August birthday. And what...

tried & true: chicken rolls

There’s one meal that will never be turned down by any member of the household, and it’s so simple and easy to make that it’s a wonder we don’t subsist on it alone! There are three main ingredients: chicken, goat cheese & spinach… and I added a special kick recently to spice it up!...

rock your baby to sleep with rock n’ roll

I was driving in the car with Miss L when “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day came across the speakers. “I think I’ve heard this song before Mamma!” she exclaimed before trying to sing along with the words she didn’t know. I got really excited for a moment. REALLY excited. You see, Miss...

growing pumpkins

At the end of June, Miss L went on an expedition to plant pumpkins thanks to Raley’s and their Farmer for a Day event at Vierra Farms in West Sacramento. When we arrived, there was a tractor with a hay bale trailer waiting to take us out to the pumpkin patch. You know what...

a farmer and her dog

A few weeks ago, Farmer L got impatient with her sprouts in the garden and decided to pull up her first carrot of the season. She proudly came in the house and showed it off to everyone and agreed to a photo-op with her crop. It was then quickly hijacked by Lincoln, the epic...

abridged and illustrated book bargains for kids

A couple months ago, Mr. M purchased “Treasure Island” for Miss L’s library. It was our family’s first attempt at reading some of these abridged & illustrated classics, and she ate up the story day after day like a sponge! She loved hearing what Jim was up to next and what was happening with...
