Kim

Kimberly Michelle is a 30-something mother/wife/girl that yearns for making everything extraordinary. If she were a super-person, she'd want to be a combination of Kate Spade, John Wooden, Martha Stewart, Walt Disney and Wolfgang Puck. She'd have her own theme park with a wood-burning oven where everyone played basketball AND enjoyed craft time and would look like a modern day Jackie O every day of the week. On this blog, she shares the exploits of her immediate family: Mr. M (my amazing husband), Miss L (also known as Baby M through year 1), and Memphis (our boston terrier) and Lincoln (the Bernese Mountain Dog). She bleeds blue and gold for her UCLA Bruins, and really only celebrate 3 seasons: football, basketball and “no football/basketball.

how a spider makes a web and other movie lessons

May 19, 2015

“Momma, how does a spider make a web?” “Well, Miss L, it’s pretty neat! Spiders can spin silk and they use that silk to carefully weave a web to trap other bugs for food.” “Wow! How does it eat the bugs it catches?” “Well… the bugs can’t see the web, so they fly into...

Miss L’s kale salad

Miss L’s kale salad

Miss L has been hooked on kale for a long time. She was born right around the time that the kale chip “fad” emerged, so she was subject to my kitchen experiments to try and transform an incredibly dense leafy green into something delectable. I did something right, in that my recipe got her...

pre-ballet

Miss L’s final “pre-ballet” class of the year is tonight. Enrolling your child in activities like dance are a modern ritual. And seeing them grow and learn and enjoy it more with each passing day is a real treasure. You wouldn’t think that much would come in just 2.5 short years, but when that...

squash blossom quesadillas

There’s a certain summer treat that I take special delight in buying at Farmer’s Market each summer: squash blossoms. I think it’s mainly the fact that I’m buying flowers that are also food that give me a little giggle each time I do it. But whatever does one DO with squash blossoms at home?...

#kidart : fairy houses

Sometimes you head to the craft store with a mission, and other times you discover the best projects while you’re wandering through the store in search of something else.    For this project, it was the latter. We were in search of eyelash yarn (for another project), when we came  across these tiny houses. ...

#birthdayfest2015 : NUTRI Ninja Auto-IQ Blender

I got Mr. M a Nutri Ninja Auto-IQ Blender for Valentine’s Day this year. And while a replacement kitchen appliance might not seem like a lovey-dovey type of gift, this one was coming from a place of pure love. You see, Mr. M had started a habit of meal replacement smoothies over a year...

#birthdayfest2015 : $50 Gift card to Build-A-Bear

The first time I visited a Build-A-Bear Workshop was for my mom’s birthday. They came down to stay at Disneyland Resort for the weekend, and one night I took her to Build-A-Bear to construct a Tinker Bell frog for her birthday. Now, with a 5-year-old in the house, Build-A-Bear has become an annual birthday...

#birthdayfest2015: Lilly Pulitzer Giraffeeey round top clutch

Maybe you got to Target right at opening last Sunday morning, but were trampled by the masses. Or perhaps you had no clue what the heck everyone was talking about for the next week. No matter which camp you were in… a little piece of the craze that was “Lilly Pulitzer for Target” can...

#Birthdayfest2015

Today marks my fateful US Presidential-threshold birthday… which means I’ve probably disappointed my 1st grade teacher by not getting my campaign efforts together in time. And since I’ve let another female candidate for office steal my groundbreaking candidate thunder for 2016, I figured I’d celebrate with you guys instead! After all, it never hurts...

Wine Wednesday: Consumer Wine Awards Tasting

I’m definitely not the wine drinker that can discern a bottle of 88-point wine from one that is far off the radar of any wine rating agency, but I definitely do know what I like and don’t like. And that’s how I found myself sitting in a large convention hall staring at glasses of...
