Kim

Kimberly Michelle is a 30-something mother/wife/girl that yearns for making everything extraordinary. If she were a super-person, she'd want to be a combination of Kate Spade, John Wooden, Martha Stewart, Walt Disney and Wolfgang Puck. She'd have her own theme park with a wood-burning oven where everyone played basketball AND enjoyed craft time and would look like a modern day Jackie O every day of the week. On this blog, she shares the exploits of her immediate family: Mr. M (my amazing husband), Miss L (also known as Baby M through year 1), and Memphis (our boston terrier) and Lincoln (the Bernese Mountain Dog). She bleeds blue and gold for her UCLA Bruins, and really only celebrate 3 seasons: football, basketball and “no football/basketball.

girl scout cookie candy bar goodness

While our camping adventures continue throughout the summer, I’m sad that Miss L isn’t quite old enough yet to experience another summer tradition: summer camp! Mr. M and I both have fond memories of overnight camp adventures and what a wonderful right of passage it was as a kid! I can especially remember how great...

watermelon burgers

Have you ever heard of a watermelon burger? Neither had I until it was time to start grilling for our 4th of July BBQ. Mr. M had arranged to make “Cafe Salle Pleyel” burgers for the festivities, but I opted out because I’m not a caper not cornichon fan. So he replied, “OK, I’ll...

my extraordinary kid

Over the past four years of motherhood, I’ve realized something that’s pretty remarkable. Miss L is an extraordinary kid. And we’re not talking about her getting a PhD at age 5 extraordinary, but in that every day way that is so special. Her face lights up with the light of the world when she’s...

Mapping the Disney Family of Wines in Northern California

Most people think of Southern California as the mecca of all things Disney, but Northern California has it’s share as well. There may not be any big amusement parks, but we do have Disney wine! Yes, you may not have known that there are many wineries in Northern California associated with the Disney family…. The...

camping in Yosemite for the first time

“Yosemite Park is a place of rest, a refuge from the roar and dust and weary, nervous, wasting work of the lowlands, in which one gains the advantages of both solitude and society. Nowhere will you find more company of a soothing peace-be-still kind. Your animal fellow beings, so seldom regarded in civilization, and...

Great American Backyard Campout 2014

We’re most definitely a camping kind of family. Mr. M sometimes thinks that I’m not very outdoorsy, but I think that opinion goes away every time I outlast him on complaining about a lack of showers or worrying about bears at night. But did you know that we hadn’t introduced Miss L to the...

I didn’t buy a blue sofa so I painted a bench blue

It all started a few weeks ago when Mr. M and I were deciding on some new furniture selections. The decision was mine to make… and one of the options on the table was a gloriously green/blue sofa set. The only problem was that it was going in the orange entry room, and for...

the bestest chocolate chip cookies on chocolate chip cookie day

You may not know what important holiday is this week, but I’d like to bring to your attention the crucial observance of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day on May 15th. It’s a day you can enjoy America’s cookie with reckless abandon (in cooked or uncooked form if you’d like) and truly celebrate everyone’s favorite...
